COMMERCIAL DIVER TRAINING
COURSE
(For Underwater
Welding Course go to side bar for more info)
Commercial
divers are trained for the occupational environment by going through four months full time or five (5) months of part
time theory and practical classes and logging over 650 hours of surface-supplied diver training.
SURFACE SUPPLIED
DIVING is where divers receive their primary air from the surface; it is different from scuba where the divers actually carry
their air supply on their back. With surface supplied diving, the divers have three back-up air supplies and communication
to the surface, where the supervisor is able to monitor the air supply, depth and time of the diver. With scuba, the
diver is responsible for monitoring his own air suply, depth and time under water.
UWIL offers a wide range of commercial diver training
courses. Our enrolment details, diving pre-requisites and course descriptions, together with all applicable costs are
listed below.

institute you will be required to do 5 dives over 3 consecutive days i.e deep diving to 120ft, night diving, boat

see the section on Scuba Diving for details and cost.
The
Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards is preparing to launch a National Commercial Diving Standard that conforms to the
OSHA requirements for the industry. One of the requirements of OSHA is that all commercial diving companies MUST have all
their divers certified by an approved certification body. This will mean that once the National Commercial Diving Standard
is enforced, OSHA inspectors will be able to shut down all operations that are conducted by divers who do not have the recognized
international commercial diver certification and who are not following the national standards in their operations.
We at UWIL are presently offering a number of commercial diver training courses. On successful completion
of the theory exams and logging of the required dive times and depth, we will apply for the certification cards. Students
are expected to find at UWIL, the same intense training that can be found in any school outside the Caribbean.
